We’re going to ruin that long lunch you had planned next week. According to new data from bitly, the best time to post on Twitter is Monday between 1 pm and 3 pm ET. Posting links during this time resulted in the highest click rank. The 1 pm – 3 pm window is the ideal time any day of the week, but the earlier in the week you post, the better. Avoid sending a tweet with a link after 8 pm on weeknights, and cease link activity after 3 pm on Fridays. As for how long your message will remain readily accessible, bitly reports that a half-life of a link posted to Twitter is 2.8 hours.

Results on Facebook are similar with regards to time of day, although the optimum window is a bit larger. Links sent between 1 pm and 4 pm will get the most traction. But unlike Twitter where the beginning of the week is ideal, the best time to post on Facebook is Wednesday at 3 pm. Again, avoid posting after 8 pm and before 8 am.

What about Pinterest? We’re afraid you’ll have to put in overtime for that one. The best time to share on the booming social network is Saturday morning.
