Kippen Applies Expertise to SHRM Panel
David Kippen, PhD, Regional Vice President, Brand & Communications Realization for TMP Worldwide's Western Region was welcomed as a participant on the 2005-06 HR Consulting/Outsourcing Panel at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)'s 2005 Annual Conference and Exposition. One of 12 SHRM Special Expertise Panels, this board seeks to identify topics important to the HR profession.
In order to participate, the panel's five members must possess advanced knowledge in one of 12 HR concentrations, and serve a one- to three-year term. Subject matter expertise in the panel topic area, good communications and interpersonal skills, and an established professional network with strategic/operational connections are required for members to be considered for the panel.
Dr. Kippen was identified by SHRM staff, reviewed and recommended by the Panel Selection Committee before being approved by the SHRM Board Governance Committee for membership. Working with other members, his expert advice and contributions will be integral to detecting emerging trends in specific HR topic areas, as well as handling public policy issues. His panel interactions will additionally impact TMP Worldwide's product and service offerings as new HR initiatives and better workplace practices are developed and implemented.
In June, the HR Consulting/Outsourcing Panel discussed the gap analysis project of SHRM's Knowledge Center, and the idea of initiating a panel "blog" as part of the SHRM Virtual Forum was presented to invite panel members to have an ongoing dialogue about issues that would remain online and be accessible to SHRM members. Other discussion topics included arranging a Speakers' Bureau, a presentation on government affairs and the creation of an digital consultants "marketplace" for posting RFPs and soliciting bids. The next panel meeting will take place in mid-August.
An experienced SHRM board member, Dr. Kippen has been a frequent speaker at the Western Pension & Benefits Conference (WP&BC). He is also a member of the Council on Communication Management (CCM), the San Francisco Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and the Northern California Human Resources Association (NCHRA). He has also consulted internationally for the United Nations Development Programme. He holds a PhD in English from Stony Brook University, and was a visiting scholar at the Stanford-U.C. Berkeley Joint Center for African Studies from 1997-2000.
